GEORGE ROBERT GILKEY

Source: Scrapbook of obituaries which were collected by Fauniel Hershberger, long-time citizen of Fountain County, Indiana

George Robert Gilkey, son of Harley and Mabel Grubbs Gilkey was born at Walkerville, Michigan Aug 22, 1915. When a small boy his family moved to the vicinity of Alamo and here he grew into a fine upright youth. When a very small boy he united with the Alamo Methodist Episcopal Church and continued a member. He met with a very distressing accident and was rushed to Culver Hospital where everything was done to save his life, but without avail, for in the early morning hours of Sunday Aug 21, he passed away lacking one day of being 12 years of age and left to mourn, his father and mother, two sisters, Elizabeth and Evelyn, a great aunt, Bettie Gilkey, many other relatives and friends limited only by his acquaintance. He was much loved by all who knew him and espeically by those of his schoolmates of whom he was a favorite. He has gone on to that better land, but we will not say that he is dead. He is just away. Card of thanks We wish to thank our friends for the kindness hown in our sad hours. To the minister, the singers and those who sent flowers and to all who in any way tried to lighten our burden. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Gilkey and family.  - kbz
